Modernity in Historic Cities - Jean Nouvel lectures in Stockholm December 5

2008 at 4pm

Forum AID Magazine and Arkitekturmuseet are proud to host an exclusive lecture by one of the biggest names in architecture on December 5. The French star architect Jean Nouvel won the Pritzker Prize in 2008 for his ability to push architectural boundaries. He is on a constant crusade against cloned urban architecture and wants every building to tell a story about its location - and about the world we live in.

Jean Nouvel runs Ateliers Jean Nouvel, the largest architectural firm in France. He is now coming to Stockholm to share his thoughts on modernity in historic cities.

Date: Friday, December 5
Place: The auditorium in Arkitekturmuseet/Moderna Museet in Stockholm Time: 4pm

More about Jean Nouvel
Jean Nouvel opened his first office in 1970, a year before he graduated. His big break came in 1987 when he designed Institut du Monde Arabe, the Arab World Insitute, in Paris. Since then his resumé - and collection of prizes and awards - has been added to with attention attracting buildings and institutions all over the world: Opéra National in Lyon, Lafayette shopping mall in Berlin, Fondation Cartier in Paris, the design hotel The Hotel in Luzern, Dentsu Tower in Tokyo, Torre Agbar in Barcelona, the Ethnographic Museum in Paris and the Guthrie Theather in Minneapolis, to name but a few.

Of course there are common denominators in Jean Nouvel’s projects, such as his creative use of glass, light and shadows. But he practices what he preaches and each building is unique. New materials and techniques are used to create architectonic experiences that represent a cross section of today’s world.

Jean Nouvel is currently working on a number of projects, including Copenhagen’s new concert hall. Together with his Swedish partner, Mia Hägg, he has also created one of the proposals for the new Slussen in Stockholm.

Press conference, 2.30 p.m. until 3.30 p.m.

Jean Nouvel will be available to meet journalists at a press conference between 2.30 p.m. until 3.30 p.m. on December 5.
